TheCommon Core State Standards intends to transform the Americaneducational system by preparing students to transition into collegeor work. Itis imperative to have standards since they lead to uniform learningobjectives. There is nothing contentious about the rules since theyprovide a list of skills that children can master at a particularage. Besides, the expectations from the students are backed up byresearch and the expertise of the educators in determining what ismost appropriate for children to know and do during the early stages.For example, the common core does not expect children to master thephonics and decoding by the end of kindergarten but to increase theirawareness and competence. It calls for the development offoundational skills such as the development of letter-sound patterns,word recognition, and handwriting. Besides, the children are expectedto follow an incremental advancement in reading through to gradefive.
Thedevelopmental appropriateness of the standards relies on how they aretaught to the students. The teaching approach shall be subject to thedecisions made by the teachers in collaboration with the localcommunities. Children are expected to undergo a rigorous process thatprepares them for the needs of the twenty-first century workingenvironment. The standards will enforce the necessity of education inworkforce development. It implies that the skills learned in math orreading by students in every state shall be uniform. The principleswill enable employers to understand what high school graduates havelearned and will be much easier to compare students across all thecountries (Frequently asked questions, n.d).
Concerningthe teachers and tests, the guidelines of the common core standardshold that there will be no set curriculum. Instead, the ideals are alist of concepts that each student is required to master at the endof each grade. The teachers will be expected to customize theirteaching and identify the best methods to provide the requisiteskills. The standards will influence the teachers by providingconsistent goals and yardsticks to evaluate the students’ careerprogression towards success in college career and life. The educatorswill face consistent expectations for students from other states whomove into their districts. They will also find the opportunity tonetwork with other instructors across the country to developcurricula and assessments that will foster a culture of highachievement and maintain high standards. Finally, the rules willenhance the tutor’s development programs to ensure the productionof highly competitive instructors (Frequently asked questions, n.d).
Thestandards require the instructors to obtain support to ensure thatstudents are well prepared to reach the newly established ideals. The resolutions on the best supports to tutors and the process ofstandard implementation shall be made at the local and state levels.Consequently, different states and localities are subject to variousimplementation approaches. Childrenwith disabilities will also be required to go through the rigorousprocess in the areas of English Language, Arts, and Mathematics.However, they shall be eligible under the Individuals withDisabilities Education Act (IDEA). In demonstrating their knowledgeand skills, the curriculum shall incorporate supports andaccommodations to enable physically challenged students to accesstheir general education curriculum.
