“ElegyWritten in a Country Churchyard”
Inthe poem ‘Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard’, written byGray, he talks about death and the heroic connotation that it has.More often, people normally wish to do things that will make them beremembered even after they have died (Gray 63). This is clearly shownin the phrase, ‘who is mindful of the un-honored dead?’ Thenarrator also talks about how life in the countryside is differentfrom what he normally subjected to in the current place that he is inand wishes for the time that he will be alone in the stretches of thevalleys. It is such a time that it becomes quite clear how importantit is, to be successful in something as this goes a long way inretaining the legacy of a given person.
Watsonand the Shark (1778)
Thispainting was chosen because it shows the resilience of people whenfaced with a different situation. It also shows that people are ableto associate with one another, especially when they are fighting thesame problem. This is a painting that was done by JohnSingleton Copley. The painting shows nine men who are on a boat andare doing their best to save a man who is in the water and is beingapproached by a shark ("British And American History PaintingsOf The 1700s"). An element of humanity is clearly displayed onthe painting, and this brings out a message that the painter aimed tocommunicate to the audience, on the importance of joining hands so asto come to the aid of an individual who could be in need of a helpinghand, where possible.
