Computers are networked to facilitate the exchange of data and toenable efficient communication. A network engineer supervises acompany’s computer network to ensure that all system functions asper the requirements (Infosec Institute, 2016). In this regard, anetwork engineer controls all computers using a central server.Consequently, each computer would have easy access to files andprograms. It is also important to connect all machines to telephone,printers, and fax equipment. In addition, regular software andhardware upgrades must be made as part of communication devicemanagement (Infosec Institute, 2016).

I elected to pursue a career in network engineering for severalreasons. Firstly, I am fascinated by computers and hardware. I havealways harbored a passion for technology and how people in differenttime zones can exchange real-time information. In addition, networkengineering has a broad application in many industries. Hence, I willhave the freedom to explore various options while making my choice ofemployment. Despite the global recession, network engineering retainsan admirable growth potential that guarantees the availability ofjobs (Prospects, 2016). Besides, I am enthused by the prospect ofworking as a freelance network engineer. I can envision chargingreasonable consultation fees for my expertise. Having a permanentposition affords me the option to receive regular payment and enjoyhealth benefits. Moreover, developing countries have adopted policiesaimed at establishing their technological infrastructure (Prospects,2016). Therefore, I foresee plenty of opportunities to traverse theglobe while making a tangible impact.

Becoming a network engineer would be interesting since it willprovide me with endless opportunities to learn. I realize thatcorporate networks have subtle differences that require keenattention to study and master. Furthermore, the system procedures ofa particular company are customarily set up through an extendedtailoring process (Prospects, 2016). On-site training is necessary tofulfill the job demands of a particular organization. Besides,network engineering has a steep learning curve that imbibes one withinvaluable analytical skills (Prospects, 2016). Therefore, I amlooking forward to increasing my knowledge of computer networks whileperforming my duties.

To qualify as a network engineer, I will be required to obtain eithera Bachelor`s degree or a Masters of Business of Administration (MBA)degree. My education would have to be centered in the field ofcomputer engineering and information systems. However, knowledge ofcomputer engineering may also suffice. The training programs provideinsight into standard networking tools. Problem-solving techniquesare also taught in anticipation of computer network complications(Prospects, 2016). Graduates are required to demonstrate competencyin information security, network administration, programmingessentials, and operating systems. Ordinarily, a position as anetwork engineer requires five to ten years’ working experience asa system administrator (Prospects, 2016). Undertaking internships atrelevant institutions provides an added advantage.

Network engineering requires particular qualifications issued bysoftware companies such as Cisco, Red Hat, and Microsoft Corporation(Prospects, 2016). Acquiring industry-standard certifications ensuresfaster advancements in the networking career. Software and hardwarevendors provide qualifications to network administrators who passdesignated exams. Notably, some employers require prospectiveengineers to have particular certifications. It is essential topossess analytical and problem-solving skills if one intends to workas a network engineer. In addition, an aptitude for design andcreativity must be combined with the ability to use administrationsoftware and network monitoring programs. Furthermore, familiaritywith wireless LAN servers and network switches is indispensable(Infosec Institute, 2016). An aspiring network engineer mustdemonstrate customer service and leadership skills if they are tolead a team of system administrators.

I plan to enroll at Colorado Technical University to undertake mystudies. In particular, I will pursue a Bachelor of Science degree inInformation Technology and Project Management. Subsequently, I willundertake an MBA that focuses on information systems. The programshould last two years and cover topics related to internet protocols,telecommunications design, and wireless networking. Moreover, I planto acquire relevant qualifications such as Microsoft CertifiedSolutions Expert (MCSE) and Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate(MCSA). Due to the high costs of enrollment, I will apply for loansto several scholarship funds. I expect my excellent academicperformance to convince the decision-makers to invest in myeducation. In addition, I will leverage my strengths to secureinternships at reputable institutions. Upon the completion of myuniversity studies, I will apply for network administration jobs togain crucial experience. During my tenure as a network administrator,I will endeavor to learn as much as possible. After five years ofdiligent service, I will start considering available opportunitiesfor network engineering. I am confident that my level of expertisewill make me competent and sufficiently qualified. My analytical andleadership skills will also be heightened such that I would attractmany offers from various companies.

Indeed, advancing technology has allowed the networking of computersto ensure exchange of information. Consequently, an urgent need fornetwork engineers has arisen in the technology market. It isnecessary for each organization to hire qualified personnel tooversee their computer system. In this regard, a network engineerdesigns and implements solutions to address challenges that mayoccur. My passion for technology and computers has driven me toconsider a career as a network engineer. I have formulated anelaborate plan to acquire the necessary skills and qualificationsthat will enable me to achieve my goals.
