Atthe age of 21, Claris Sylvia had already started experiencing a lumpin her left breast. There was thickening on areas close to herarmpits and she also suffered skin irritation. Additionally, she hadpain and tenderness which was accompanied with nipple discharge.Sequentially, Claris wasdiagnosed and found with fibrocystic breast condition (Reynolds,2000).My fellow practitioners and I analyzed her respiratory system andestablished hemoptysis, wheezing, and epistaxis in her chest and shehad blood in the developing cysts. She informed us that she hadhealth insurance. This was important in settling most of the bills.Because of her young age, we could not perform a mammogram on her. After a series of surgeries, the condition was cleared up. However, the breast remained abnormal and looked unattractive. In the lastweek of my practicum, Clarisreturnedto the hospital with fluid filled inflammations that popped out evenafter being drained (Dixon,2009).
Sylvianow understands that her failure to take the symptoms seriously atthe initial stages highly contributed to the secondary phase of thefibrocysticbreast condition. As a result, she considers it wise for any patient with the risk of abreastcondition to adopta positive lifestyle (Lampe,2007). It is one of the best strategies to reduce one’s risk forfibrocysticbreast condition. This takes account of getting regular breast examinations, maintaining a standard weight, and restraining from alcohol intake.Through Sylvia’s experience, I would advise patients to performbreast self-exams by checkingon the nipples for any discharge. Thereafter, they will need to placethe thumb on the tissues around the nipple while pulling the skinoutward to see if there are any fluids (Lampe,2007).
